160th SOAR MH-60 Black Hawk Crashes in Colorado, Crew Safe:

An MH-60 Black Hawk of the U.S. Army’s 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment crashed in a wooded area in Colorado, and the crew was able to escape without injuries.

A U.S. Army MH-60 Black Hawk, assigned to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR), has crashed in Colorado on Aug. 25, 2026. The crew was able to escape unharmed, according to Army officials.

The incident, which happened during a training flight, saw the helicopter going down in a wooded area to the north of Golden Gate Canyon State Park, according to a statement from the Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office to CBS News. The aircraft can be seen surrounded by broken trees, possibly as a result of the incident.

The images available show that the helicopter suffered substantial damage to the main rotor, with the blades snapped near the rotor mast, with the airframe appearing mostly intact. The specialized equipment and the black livery used by the 160th SOAR can be easily recognized.

No additional details are available at this time, with emergency personnel still on scene. A safety investigation has already been launched.

“The 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) is aware of an August 25, 2026, aviation mishap during routine training operations near Denver, Colorado. The command takes all training incidents and the safety of our personnel seriously. Because this is currently the subject of an active safety investigation, we cannot provide additional comment or information at this time.”

The incident happened few weeks after the crash of a U.S. Army AH-64E Apache in Texas. That incident however had a different outcome, causing the loss of the airframe and the death of both crewmembers.
