- Time flies - Farewell Falcon: The Final Dutch F-16 Few aircraft have left such a distinctive mark on Dutch military aviation as the F-16. To commemorate the end of an era, F-16AM J-197 was transformed into the Farewell Falcon, a striking tribute to 45 years of Dutch F-16 operations. Its special paint scheme, designed by aviation artist Peter van Stigt, combines the familiar Dutch grey of the Fighting Falcon with a dramatic falcon motif and graphic elements celebrating the aircraft, its crews and 312 Squadron “Bonzo.” On 27 September 2024, J-197 took to the skies from Volkel Air Base for the RNLAF's final F-16 flight. Leading the farewell formation, the specially painted Falcon made its final passes over locations connected with the Dutch F-16 story. I was able to capture it some weeks before its final flight at its homebase Volkel Air Base.
